Honeywell Awarded for Quality and Customer Satisfaction

Honeywell Turbo Technologies received both best customer satisfaction and quality awards from a renowned online automobile and auto parts marketplace in China, Gasgoo.com. Honeywell is the first foreign joint venture for engine turbines stationed in China and has helped lower costs and emissions for domestically manufactured vehicles. Furthermore, Honeywell has established an international turbo technology center in Shanghai to help research and develop new technologies and applications.

Honeywell-Powered Chevrolet Cruze Gives U.S. Consumers What They Want

“General Motors thinks that U.S. consumers want the extra performance that modern diesels provide as well as simply the economy,” says an article on the Green Car Report website. So, they are bringing the Honeywell-turbocharged diesel Chevrolet Cruze, already on sale in Europe, to the United States. The article goes on to speculate that “GM could get the jump on the rest of the market too, as J.D. Power forecasts diesel sales will increase from 3 percent of the passenger car market today to 7 percent by 2016.”

Turbochargers Help Deliver on Lean, Green Theme at Frankfurt Auto Show

An article on Marketwatch.com predicted that, along with electric and hybrid vehicles, smaller, more fuel-efficient turbocharged engines were expected to dominate the premier European auto event. The article asserts that smaller engines are part of a trend to improve fuel efficiency and that, thanks to the power delivered by turbochargers, they are becoming a more frequent sight at auto shows.

Turbochargers Now Considered “Mainstream”

A website designed for the insurance industry published an article saying that “the turbocharger, once the ‘red flag’ for insurance underwriters because of its appeal to fast drivers, has now become more mainstream.” The article explains that “as increased Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards co-mingle closely with the customer desire for performance, turbochargers are seeing a rise in popularity. Honeywell automotive systems alone has experienced a 10 percent increase in its business supplying turbochargers to the auto industry.”

Automotive News: Honeywell Predicts Major Boom in Turbo Use by 2020

Automotive News.com reported that “turbocharger use on U.S. light vehicles will zoom to 82 percent by 2020 from just five percent in 2009.” According to the article, Steve McKinley, a top executive with Honeywell Turbo Technologies, said the boom is being driven by tougher government fuel-economy regulations, rising fuel prices and consumer appetites.

Turbochargers Return to Formula One in 2014

Starting in 2014, Formula One will move to smaller, turbo-powered engines overturning the race’s 1989 ban on turbochargers. The change was driven by auto manufacturers who demanded the sport reduce engine size to become more relevant to the automotive industry as road car engine designs become more and more efficient. Thanks to this change, F1 cars will be more powerful, efficient and durable.

2011 Volkswagen Touareg: “Thrives on Diesel Power”

According to a recent review by Scott Burgess from The Detroit News, the Honeywell-turbocharged 2011 Volkswagen Touareg TDI may be “the best way to get Americans into diesels.” Burgess, a self proclaimed fan of diesel engines, says: “the Touareg’s clean, quiet running 3-liter turbocharged direct injection (T-D-I) engine provides all the power and offers better fuel economy than its American gas-powered competition… Diesels are smooth, clean, and, drop for drop, take you farther in more luxury than anything else.”

CNNMoney: “Turbos Charging Ahead”

Alex Ismail, President and CEO of Honeywell Transportation Systems, appeared on CNNMoney to discuss the turbocharger’s evolution and the expected increase in the production of turbocharged cars for the United States. “The turbo revolution is on the way in the United States, where we are going to see turbo penetration growing in light vehicles from nine percent in 2011 to more than 20 percent by 2015,” said Ismail. “And it’s going to be on all vehicles.”

Legendary Auto Designer Predicts Turbos are the Future

Carroll Shelby, a legendary American hot-rodder, racer and performance-car designer recently spoke with Road & Track about his love for cars and his current pursuits. The 88-year-old is convinced small, powerful engines will dominate in the future. According to Shelby “…the industry is going completely to small engines with turbochargers. That’s the only way you can get the mileage that the government is going to be demanding.”
